Colt on Fire

Colt Brennan threw for almost 550 yards Friday night for Hawaii at San Jose State. The Warriors pulled off a close 7-point overtime win thanks to Brennan throwing for four touchdowns and despite his four thrown picks. Oh, and he ran in a touchdown as well. The final score was 42-35 and the Yardstick was at 14 for Hawaii.

The 545 total passing yards came on a WAC-record 75 pass attempts by Brennan this evening, 44 of which were completions. That is one more completion than Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers had in the three complete games he played before being injured two snaps into Week Four. Vince Young, quarterback of the Tennessee Titans, has only attempted 25 more passes total in four complete games. I know college isn’t the NFL, but that’s a lot of arm work for anyone. Last year, Colt set an NCAAF record by tossing 58 touchdowns.

Colt Brennan

Tonight’s heroics were made even more impressive due to the fact that he was working on a wounded ankle and still was able to power his Warriors to victory even as they were 14 points behind San Jose State with just four minutes to go in the final quarter. The tying touchdown was the one he ran in, to tie the game with just 31 ticks remaining on the game clock. Everyone in the FanYard community should see this kid play at some point while he is still in college.

I can’t wait to see this kid in the NFL, just to see how he makes the transition.

***As a side note, The Colorado Rockies just now beat the Arizona D-backs to go up 2-0 in their series. They’ve now won all five playoffs games this season and are 19-1 in their last 20 games overall. The babes gotta love that.
