As if the Dolphins were not ranked last on most of the expert rankings before today, they have now become even worse than they were yesterday. For a second-round pick in next year’s draft, Miami gave receiver Chris Chambers to the San Diego Chargers today, further depleting what was an anemic, 21st-ranked offense.
With the Yardstick for this weekend’s match against the unbeaten New England Patriots set at 14 as of this writing, one has to wonder if that number is sure to rise. Remember, you can change your pick right up until the scheduled game time.
My buddy Jeff is a huge Dolphins fan. He has a helmet, jersey, license plate and all the goods. I sent him a quick email at work to tell him the news that Chambers was gone. His reply:
“Oh my god!!!! Do you want to buy some Dolphins merchandise? Cause I am done with the shitty managerial decisions that have let me down each and every year. Yeah I hope they go 0-16. I will cheer against them the rest of the year as I hope they do so bad they’ll clean house at the end of the season. I feel so bad for Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor though as if this won’t affect their play the rest of the year. This is completely like the Ryan Smith trade with the Oilers where they just gave up on the season but at least they gave up closer to the end of the season. As if my day wasn’t going bad enough and now this. Thanks for breaking the news to me at work your lucky I just didn’t have a meltdown right here. At least I was sitting down when I read this. On a brighter note Chambers is on my fantasy team so maybe he’ll score me some points now playing for a real team instead of a franchise that can only remember their perfect season. They need to pull their head out of theirs asses cause guess what their going to have another perfect season 0-16. I hope you have room for me on the Patriots bandwagon cause I’m jumping on. This weekend will be an embarrassment blow-out against the Dolphins. I’m sooooo mad and could probably go on about this even longer but I better get back to work. Anyways I’ll give you a call tonight to further discuss the demise of a once storied franchise.”
OUCH! That about sums it up, folks! Oh, and no, I do not want Dolphins merch, even for free!

This move reminds me too much of when a baseball team gets off to a slow start and they trade away players for prospects…throwing in the towel. Can you say rebuilding? They got rid of Welker and McMicheal in the offseason. They have to start thinking about Jason Taylor and Zack Thomas getting up there (although may be thinking Crowder and Matt Roth can fill those shows…hmmm, dunno). I don’t think Ginn Jr. is going to be a #1 WR so I don’t get the move.
Every time Welker or Morris touches the ball for the Pats I curse the Phins organization. Both were solid football players, the kind of players you want and need on your team. It’s like they threw in the towel before the season began. Now with Chambers gone, you have to wonder if Ginn will see the field some more. The Dolphins also need to see what they have in Beck at QB.
Who they need to get rid of is whoever is making the play calls that make them think players like Morris, Welker, Chamber and McMichael are expendable. Obviously, if these players were properly used, the team would be unable to justify their jettisonning. This issue goes back even to the days of Marino. If the team had deemed a running game important enough to actually give Marino something else to work with, the Dolphins most likely would have gone to at least one or two more Super Bowls under his guidance.
So true on the Marino thing.
Omar, you have a point. If they are throwing so many friggen towels in the ring they may as well throw Beck in there too. If you ask me Chambers would have been great for him as an experienced WR…but now the guy would be Marty Booker in that dept. and the way they are going I wouldn’t look for him to be around next year.
