While the media has labeled Sunday’s meeting between the New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys “The Duel in Dallas,” presumably because they believe small alliterations will draw huge larger readerships, one of the supposed key players, Terrle Ooons, has decided not to speak the media until after the game. Instead, preferring to write another of his much ballyhooed children’s books and leave it stuck to his locker with scotch tape – his favorite toy.
Well, actually, that his not true. Terrle did not write the note – and I would be extremely surprised if he had anything to do with one of the books that bears his name. He paid his publicist $25 to type it out for him and then he signed it with his rubber stamp signature that his psychologist bought for him a few years ago, celebrating the fact that Mr. Ooons could finally count all the way to 81 with fewer than 15 dropped numbers. At least, that is what I believe.
It should be interesting to hear what the annual NFL leader in dropped passes has to say after just the second meeting since 1973 between two 5-0 teams. I guess it will depend on whether or not his dropped balls are the cause of discomfort and pain for his teamates, or just another day at the office where they manage to get by despite TOs fumbly-hands.
As you can see, the little boy who cried when he caught his first big pass from Steve Young to knock the Packers out of the playoffs all those years ago has not far to go to catch up the this year’s leader in dropped passes.
Only three short of the lead TO. I feel confident you’ll be able to catch up this week, big fella. Good luck, I’m grabbing some popcorn.
